A few years ago when I wanted to level up my daily fasting game from 16 to 20 hours, this ACV drink recipe was the major key. A specific mixture which made it far easier to consume more ACV, as well as keep my hunger at bay.
I’m going to go ahead and assume that you already know enough about apple cider vinegar that you want to take in more of it daily.
You’ve tried doing straight up shots of it, eventually realizing this could destroy the enamel on your teeth. Now you’re properly diluting it but can’t stand drinking a bunch of vinegary water.
First off, welcome to the club. Been there, done that… too many times. Second, you’ve definitely come to the right place.
So let’s dive into what may very well be the best tasting electrolyte ACV drink you’ve ever had!
ACV Drink Ingredients
500 to 800ml – Water
2 Tbsp – Apple Cider Vinegar
Juice from half a Lime or Lemon
Magnesium powder (see below for details)
1/2 tsp – 1 tsp Cream of Tartar
¼ tsp – ½ tsp Himalayan Pink Salt or other broad spectrum mineral salt
Optional Sweetener (see below for fasting/non-fasting suggestions)
These ingredients put together will give you a powerhouse electrolyte drink helping to suppress your appetite so you can extend your fast and reap more of its benefits to your health.
ACV Drink Recipe
To start off you’re going to need water. I’m typically using around 800ml (under a quart) though you can go anywhere from 2 to 3 cups.
Next, add in the Apple cider vinegar. If you’re making this ACV drink recipe often, then using a liquor bottle pourer is an excellent choice to streamline the process.
Now let’s add the lime juice, but make sure squeeze this yourself! It’s best to avoid the cheap store-bought bottled stuff. Half a lime should do, but if you want to neutralize more of the ACV taste, then feel free to use all of it.
To make this drink Next Level we’re going to add some magnesium to it. Depending on the type that you’re using, this might make your drink a bit gritty since some are hard to dissolve in water. So feel free to substitute with taking a capsule on the side, especially if you don’t have bulk powder.
Add in your cream of tartar, pink salt, and optional sweetener; give it a stir and you are ready to go!
Important Recipe Details and Info
I feel that I can’t get away from simply listing the recipe without providing some context; whether it’s why I’m using an ingredient in this ACV drink or other beneficial info.
For apple cider vinegar you can choose any brand. Just make sure you’re following the two rules when it comes to ACV selection:
- Get organic every time
- Make sure it’s unpasteurized
Following these guidelines will provide you with the utmost benefits. The bottle should be clearly labelled, but you can also tell by looking at the vinegar. If its super clear, looking like commercial apple juice then stay away from it. Raw, Unfiltered ACV will always have a cloudy look to it. This is the good stuff. The beneficial bacterial inside that helped turn the alcohol from fermenting apples into vinegar.
Limes
Regardless if you’re using lemons or limes, they both increase production of the “Master Anti-oxidant” glutathione in our bodies. This increases our bodies natural ability to detox itself. Especially if you’re fasting when we are already in a cleansing state. Needless to say, being able to boost this in your body further is just another big win to add.
Magnesium
There are a variety of magnesium categories that can really make things confusing. Many of them have poor absorbability rates and in high doses can excite your bowels far too much. One of the best and most cost effective is magnesium glycinate. Though, if you’re looking for a form of magnesium that helps with energy output, then I suggest magnesium malate. This one is fantastic for energy, especially if you’re doing any fasted exercise.
*** Make sure to check with the concentration of your magnesium source, absorbability and dosage. This is going to vary with each type.
For those of you using this as a fasting aid MAKE SURE to avoid most magnesium compound mixtures. They might have certain sweeteners in there that can trigger an insulin response throwing you out of your fasted state.
Cream of Tartar
This is probably one of the weirdest ingredients that you’ve only heard of being used for baking. So why are we using it? Well, it’s completely loaded with potassium. A vital mineral that helps with nerve signalling, fluid regulation and other functions we need to stay alive.
Again, for those of us that are fasting, we burn through a lot more potassium. Especially with all the water we are drinking if it doesn’t have salt in it.
A full teaspoon contains about 500 mg of potassium, roughly 15% of our recommended daily intake.
Optional Sweetener
I personally add in some stevia as I like this drink to taste extra delicious. Something about citrusy, salty, vinegary water tastes that much better when it’s sweet… at least to me.
I use a liquid stevia in glycerine or water as I can’t stand the taste of those mixed in alcohol.
For those of you doing intermittent fasting, stevia or monk fruit powder won’t trigger an insulin response, keeping your ketones flowing. However, there is a slight chance it can trigger your appetite since you are signalling sweetness to your brain without providing the sugary goods.
If you aren’t fasting you do have a lot more flexibility in sweeteners. If this is the case, then I’d suggest going with some quality raw honey to liven up the drink even more.
